Qualifications

Introduction:

Amersham’s secondary schools offer a good range of qualifications to prepare our students for the next stage of their education or employment.

The purpose of qualifications in our education system is to help students show what they know and can do. This helps them understand more about our world and enables them to demonstrate their skills and aptitudes to potential employers.

GCSEs are taken at age 16 in a range of subjects. Amersham’s secondary schools offer a full range of GCSEs, to make sure that students can get the recognition they deserve. English, Maths, Sciences, Humanities and Creative subjects are all encouraged. For some students vocational qualifications form an appropriate route to qualifications of the same level, in areas such as Health and Social Care or Travel and Tourism. These qualifications are Level 2 BTEC qualifications. After completing GCSEs students have more choice about the path they take. Employment based training such as apprenticeships, and vocational courses at local colleges are available. A levels are the most common qualification in Amersham’s secondary schools. BTECs are also available in some subjects.
